What is Hepcvir (Sofosbuvir) used for?

Hepcvir (Sofosbuvir) is indicated in combination with under medicinal products for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C in genotype 1, 2, 3 and 4. It is suitable to treat patients awaiting liver transplantation and those with HCV/HIV-1 co-infection.

Sofosbuvir directly targets the Hepatitus C virus to stop it from making copies of itself in the liver and makes it harder for the virus to multiply.

How should I use Hepcvir (Sofosbuvir)?

A starting dosage of 400mg per day is often prescribed. One tablet is taken orally, once daily with or without food. Sofosbuvir needs to be taken along with ribavirin or in combination with pegylated interferon and ribavirin for the treatment of chronic hepatitus C (CHC) in adults.

The recommended dosing method in treatment for HCV patients as follows:

• 1. HCV genotype 1 or 4 takes Hepcvir (Sofosbuvir) with Ribavirin and Pegylated interferon for 12 weeks.
• 2. HCV genotype 2 takes Hepcvir (Sofosbuvir) with Ribavirin for 12 weeks (without interferon).
• 3. HCV genotype 3 takes Hepcvir (sofosbuvir with Ribavirin for 24 weeks (without interferon).

What are the side effects of Hepcvir (Sofosbuvir)?

A pregnancy test should be performed prior to beginning treatment with Hepcvir.
