What is Zelgor (Abiraterone) used for?

Abiraterone or Abiraterone Acetate is indicated in men who are suffering from prostate cancer that is resistant to hormonal or surgical treatment. This is also known as Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer (mCRPC). Abiraterone is not taken needs to be taken in conjuction with prednisone.

Prostate cancer is fueled by the production of androgens in the body. Abiraterone helps to control prostate cancer by reducing androgen production at three different sites in the body - the tumor iteslf, the testes, and the adrenal glands.

How should I use Zelgor (Abiraterone)?

One tablet of Zelgor will contain 250mg of Abiraterone Acetate. Your doctor will give you dosage instructions - follow these closely.

Abiraterone must be taken without food (on anempty stomach). Avoid eating for two hours before and one hour after taking Abiraterone.

Abiraterone tablets are swallowed whole with a glass of water. The tablets should not be crushed or chewed.

Any sexual contact while taking Abiraterone should involve the use of contraception.

What are the side effects of Zelgor (Abiraterone)?

Abiraterone has been known to cause serious side effects in some patients. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

• hypertension (high blood pressure)
• hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood)
• edema (fluid retention)

If you notice any of the following while taking Abiraterone, contact your doctor:

• dizziness
• fast heartbeats
• feel faint or lightheaded
• headache
• confusion
• muscle weakness
• pain in your legs
• swelling in your legs or feet
• adrenal problems
• liver problems

The most common side effects of Abiraterone are:

• weakness
• joint swelling or pain
• swelling in your legs or feet
• hot flushes
• diarrhea
• vomiting
• cough
• high blood pressure
• shortness of breath
• urinary tract infection
• bruising
• low red blood cells (anemia) and low blood potassium levels
• high blood sugar levels, high blood cholesterol and triglycerides
• certain other abnormal blood tests

Please Note

Abiraterone should only be taken by men, and only by those in advanced stages of prostate cancer. Abiraterone must not be taken by women or children. Tablets should never be handled unprotected by women who are pregnant or wanting to become pregnant.

Some medical conditions or medical treatments can interfere with Abiraterone. Tell you doctor if you have any of the following conditions before starting treatment:

• heart problems
• liver problems
• adrenal problems
• any other medical conditions
• taking any other medicines or supplements
