What is Zytix (Abiraterone Acetate) used for?

Zytix contains the active ingredient Abiraterone Acetate, a steroidal antiandroge used with prednisone to treat metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (hormone-resistant or hormone-refractory prostate cancer). Abiraterone is usually used in cases of prostate cancer where medical or surgical treatments that lower testosterone have not been sucessful and the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

How should I use Zytix (Abiraterone Acetate)?

Zytix is sold as a box of 6 tablets. Eac table contains 250mg of Abiraterone Acetate.

Take the excat dosage prescribed by your doctor and continue do so unless your doctor advises you to stop.

Take your Zytix tablets at least one hour before eating, or two hours after eating.

Swallow each Zytix tablet whole with a glass of water. The tablets should not be crushed or chewed.

What are the side effects of Zytix (Abiraterone Acetate)?

Zytix can cause serious side effects including:

• hypertension (high blood pressure)
• hypoklaemia (low blood potassium levels)
• edema (fluid retention)

Notify your doctor immediately if you notice:

• dizziness
• fast heartbeats
• feeling faint or lightheaded
• headache
• confusion
• muscle weakness
• leg pain
• swelling in your legs or feet

The most common side effects encountered when taking Zytix (Abiraterone) are:

• Weakness
• joint swelling or pain
• swelling in your legs or feet
• hot flushes
• diarrhea
• vomiting
• cough
• high blood pressure
• shortness of breath
• urinary tract infection
• bruising
• low red blood cells (anemia)
• low blood potassium levels
• high blood sugar levels
• high blood cholesterol and triglycerides (hypercholesterolemia)
• certain other abnormal blood tests

If you stop taking prednisone along with Zytix, or if you get an infection, or if you are under a great deal of stress, you may experience some adrenal problems.

Some people may experince liver damage or liver failure. Regular liver function tests can monitor for this. Notify your doctor if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of the urine or severe nausea and/or vomiting.

Please Note

Before you take Zytix, tell your doctor if you have any existing of previous medical conditions, especially:

• heart problems
• liver problems
• a history of adrenal problems
• a history of pituitary problems

The ingredients in Zytix can be harmful to unborn or newborn babies. Pregnant women must not handle Zytix tablets unless wearing protectice equipment such as gloves. Zytix must not be swallowed by pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Zytix can interact negatively with other prescription medicines, and over-the-counter products, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Make sure your doctor is aware if you are taking any of these.

Care must be taken not to father a child while they are taking Zytix and for at least one week after stoping treatment. Always use sufficient contraception during sexual activity with a woman while you are taking Zytix.
