Pivasta (Pitavastatin)
What is Pivasta (Pitavastatin) used for? Pivasta (Pitavastatin) belongs to a class of medicines called statins. Statins are used to lower cholesterol and triglycerides in patients with high levels. Pitavastatin also increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. Pitavastatin inhibits an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase. This helps to reduce the production of certain fatty substances in the body, including cholesterol and triglycerides. How should I use Pivasta (Pitavastatin)? Pivasta comes in a strip of 10 tablets. Three different dosages are available: 1mg tablets, 2mg tablets, and 4mg tablets. In most people without any contravening factors (such as liver or kidney disease), an initial dose of 2mg per day is prescribed, with a maintenance dose of 1mg to 4mg per day depending on how you respond. The maximum daily dosage should not exceed 4mg per day. Follow the dosing instructions provided by your doctor, as this will vary from person to person. Pivasta tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, and can be taken with or without food. Take Pivasta for as long as advised by your doctor. Do not stop taking it if you feel better. What are the side effects of Pivasta (Pitavastatin)? Pitavastatin can result in some unwanted side effects. Pitavastatin may cause liver problems. This risk in increased in patients with heavy alcohol consumption. Muscle problems (myopathy) have been reported with Pitavastatin. Tell your doctor if you experience any unexplained muscle pain or tenderness. The most common side effects of Pitavastatin are back pain, constipation, and diarrhea.
