Capstar (Nitenpyram)
What is Capstar (Nitenpyram) used for? Capstar (Nitenpyram) is a neonicotinoid type of insecticide used to kill adult fleas. It works by over stimulating and blocking receptors in fleas that cause almost instant paralysis and death. It is usually used on any infested pet to give immediate relief for a day. It may be used along with other medication for long term treatment to prevent re-infestation. How should I use Capstar (Nitenpyram)? Capstar (Nitenpyram) is taken orally and can be taken with food. A single dose should eliminate all adult fleas on your pet. If your pet is re-infested, it is safe to administer another dose as often as once per day. It is a short term relief and should not be used as a long term preventative of infections. What are the side effects of Capstar (Nitenpyram)? There are usually no side effects for pets using Capstar (Nitenpyram), however, it should not be administered to puppies and kittens less than 4 weeks of age. Please Note Capstar (Nitenpyram) is not always suitable for all animals. Always consult your veterinarian prior to using this medication if your pet is pregnant, breastfeeding, breeding, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if it has any allergies or other health problems. Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives. The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the animal and the condition being treated. Do not adjust the dosage without the approval of your veterinarian.
