Opticare (Cyclosporin)
What is Opticare (Cyclosporin) used for? Opticare (Cyclosporin) is an ophthalmic medication prescribed to dogs with conjunctivitis to reduce inflammation and redness while inproving lubrication and comfort. It operates by preventing the action of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation to reduce redness and discomfort caused by this condition. This action may also make this medication useful for treating dogs suffering from superficial keratitis. How should I use Opticare (Cyclosporin)? Opticare (Cyclosporin) is normally applied to the affected eye twice daily, but the best directions will be determined by your veterinarian based on your dog's current health, the condition being treated, and the severity of its symptoms. To apply the drops gently pull open the eye being treated, apply a thin line of the medication along the lower edge of the eye, and allow your dog to blink to spread it over the entire surface. Thoroughly wash your hands using soap and water after each application to prevent the medication from contacting your own mucous membranes. Never allow the tip of the applicator to touch any foreign surfaces, including the eye itself, as this may cause contamination. What are the side effects of Opticare (Cyclosporin)? Opticare (Cyclosporin) will not cause side effects in most dogs when used correctly. Stop using the medication and contact your veterinarian immediately if you observe any worrying symptoms such as deterioration of your dog's condition, crusting or discharge from the eye, vomiting, or signs of an allergic reaction including severe skin rashes, swelling, or difficulty breathing. These conditions may require special adjustments to your dog's frequency of administration or immediate medical attention in severe cases. Please Note Opticare (Cyclosporin) is only meant to be used to treat dogs and should never be administered to other types of animals including humans. You are also recommended to bring your pet in for a medical evaluation prior to use to make sure it does not have any health conditions that may lead to unexpected health complications. Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Opticare (Cyclosporin). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated. As this medication may be unsafe for certain patients, it is essential you always inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if you are taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products. Immediately seek emergency medical care if you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing. |
