What is Ipakitine (Calcium Carbonate/Chitosan) used for?

Ipakitine (Calcium Carbonate/Chitosan) can help improve the quality of life in cats and dogs with kidney failure or chronic kidney disease (CKD). Cats and dogs with chronic renal failure have been shown to improve when phosphate levels are decreased. Ipakitine binds to the phosphates, reducing the amount of phophate taken up in the intestines. This can has the same effect as a phosphate-reduced diet or can enhance an existing phosphate-reduced diet. Ipakitine also decreases the absorption of some uraemic toxins.

How should I use Ipakitine (Calcium Carbonate/Chitosan)?

Ipakitine is available as a 180g bottle. It also includes a scoop to make measure your pet's doses easier. The scoop holds 1g of powder.

Dosage guidelines are as follows:

• 3-5 kg: 2 level scoops per day
• 10 kg : 4 level scoops per day
• 15 kg: 6 level scoops per day
• 20 kg: 8 level scoops per day

Dosage should be given as two divided doses.

Ipakitine should be mixed with the pet's food.
