What is Safeheart (Pimobendan) used for?

Safeheart contains the active ingreent Pimobendan (1.25mg or 5mg). It is a vasodilatator used to treat mild, moderate or severe congestive heart failure in dogs. It should only be used to treat heart failure resulting from atrioventricular valvular insufficiency (AVVI) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).

How should I use Safeheart (Pimobendan)?

Pimobendan is available in two dosages:

• Pimobendan 1.25mg (30 Tablets)
• Pimobendan 5mg (30 Tablets)

Most dogs are prescribed a dosage of 0.23 mg/lb (0.5 mg/kg) body weight daily, given as two divided doses. Using your dogs weight as a guide, you can determine which dosage of tablet will be required to give the correct aprroximate dose (using whole and/or half tablets).

Safeheart is a oral tablet.

What are the side effects of Safeheart (Pimobendan)?

The most common side effects of Safeheart (Pimobendan) are:

• lack of appetite
• lethargy
• diarrhea
• dyspnea
• azotemia
• weakness and ataxia
• pleural effusion
• syncope
• cough
• sudden death
• ascites
• heart murmur

Please Note

Only use Safeheart in cases of heart failure where atrioventricular valvular insufficiency (AVVI) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) has been observed. The safety of Safeheart for other heart complaints has not been established..

Pimobendan may not be suitable for use in:

• dogs under 6 months old
• dogs with diabetes mellitus
• pregnant or lactating dogs.

Do not used Safeheart (Pimobendan) in cases of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, aortic stenosis, or any other clinical condition where an augmentation of cardiac output is inappropriate for functional or anatomical reasons.

Safeheart is pet medicine to be used in dogs. It is not suitable for human consumption.
