What is ThyroFit 25 (Thyroxine Sodium) used for?

Thyrofit (Thyroxine Sodium or Levothyroxine Sodium) is a synthetic version of a hormone that is produced in the body naturally. Some people have a condition called hypothyroidism, where their body cannot produce enough of this hormone. Inadequate levels of thyroxine can cause mental and physical fatigue, loss of strength, hair and skin conditions, and muscle cramping. Thyrofit is also sometimes for thyroid cancer or goiters.

How should I use ThyroFit 25 (Thyroxine Sodium)?

Your doctor will have prescribed you a specific dosage for your requirements, which will be based on age, weight, medical conditions, and the severity of the condition being treated. Follow the instructions given to you by your doctor.

Thyrofit comes packaged as a pack of 30 x 25mcg oral tablets. The tablets should be swallowed whole on an empty stomach before breakfast. Most people will need to take just one dose in the morning.

What are the side effects of ThyroFit 25 (Thyroxine Sodium)?

Many people taking Throxine notice hairloss in the early stages of treatment. Usually this is very temporary, and as the body adjusts to a new medication hair growth returns and hair becomes back to normal.

Some side effects are a sign that the dosage being taken is too high. If you notice any of the following, let your doctor know. They may need to adjust your dosage.

• sweating
• sensitivity to heat
• mental/mood changes (such as nervousness, mood swings)
• tiredness
• diarrhea
• shaking (tremor)
• headache
• shortness of breath
• chest pain
• fast/pounding/irregular heartbeat
• swelling hands/ankles/feet
• seizures

Please Note

Before taking Thyrofit, tell your doctor of all medications you are currently taking. Of particular importance are the following which cn interfere with Thyrofit:

• blood thinners
• digoxin
• sucroferric oxyhydroxide
• theophylline

Tell your doctor of all health problems you have especially:

• increased thyroid hormones (thyrotoxicosis)
• decreased adrenal gland function
• heart disease (such as coronary artery disease, irregular heartbeat)
• high blood pressure (hypertension)
• diabetes

Thyrofit should be safe to use during pregnancy, but a dosage adjustment may be advised by your doctor.
