What is Jardiance (Empagliflozin) used for? Jardiance contains the active ingredient Empagliflozin, a gliflozin indicated in the treatment of type-2 diabetes mellitus (adult-onset diabetes or non insulin-dependent diabetes) in adults. It can help to control blood sugar levels and works best when used in combination with diet and exercise. How should I use Jardiance (Empagliflozin)? Jardiance is available as a 10mg tablet or a 25mg tablet. Both strengths are sold as a strip of 10 tablets. A starting dosage of 10mg per day is usually prescribed. If 10mg is not providing a sufficient improvement, and the tablets are being well tolerated, this can be increased to 25mg per day. What are the side effects of Jardiance (Empagliflozin)? The following side effects should be considered serious:
Contact you doctor if you notice any of the above when taking Jardiance. If you are taking other medicines that can cause lower blood sugars (eg. sulfonylurea or insulin) Jardiance can increase the risk that you will develop low blood sugar. Jardiance can cause an increase in cholesterol. Please Note Certain medical conditions can cause complications when taking Jardiance. People with any kidney problems, liver problems, pancreatic problems should check with their doctor before beginning treatment. People with a history of urinary tract infections are at risk of these returning when taking Empagliflozin. It is unknown if Jardiance is safe to take when you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. |
